My husband is currently on 10mg of Olanzapine, how has it worked out for any of you?  he seems to be still going up and down with his moods.. Doctor in England told him he can reduce and he slowly went from 10 to 7.5 to 5mg.  But with the 5mg, it was not enough because he was getting more and more moodswings.. so now we put him on 5mg in the morning and 5mg in the night but i dunno if this is enough.

Doctor also told him to do a regular exercise which he is slowly doing, but it is an effort.  The only problem is that the medicine makes him really tired and sleepy.. the good news is, he has an easy workplace, he goes in around 11am and can head back by 7pm.  He also has a gym at work so if he really goes in earlier, he can go.  But i dont want to seem like i am forcing him into going?

Basically my posting is, has Olanzapine worked for you?  How effective is it?

I've never heard of the drug...it is a hugely positive thing if he is still able to regularly exercise, as it isn't a feat that most of us here can conquer. Most of our meds do make us tired and sleepy. It is my opinion that you just be understanding, it is detremental for him to feel that he is not being pushed

Best of luck and prayers sent your way!

I've been taking Zyprexa for sometime now, 20mg once a day. seems to work great for me. At first I did have major mood swings and didnt think it was working, But things calmed down. My only problem that I have found is the cost. its expensive, Sorry such a short answer but I hope it helps..... Undecided

I'm on it at the moment but I think it's too soon to tell how well it's working. Good luck to you.
