Fred, i'm glad your meds are working for you and that they've helped you to this very day. ii on the other hand, it wouldn't matter if ii was on the meds or not, ii would still do the wild things ii do. I've tryed 75% of meds that ii know of and none of them have worked for me. ii still feel like shit. ii mean yeah, ii don't cry as dramatically and hit rock bottom but ii still get pretty close. To the point that i'de do things that i'de soon regret.

my case manager told me that if you let bipolar go without meds, the episodes of both mania and depression will get more severe everytime. that was convincing enough for me to stick with the meds.

I went 10 yrs before I was diagnosed. I don't know how I got through it. I have been diagnosed with depression heaps of times but antidepressants never worked.

Yeah. the meds are lifesavers--not that I'd drop dead without them, but I would be so crazy that life wouldnt be worth living. I sometimes wonder if I'm qctually szchizoaffective, because I have had a touvch of schiz every so often, and the last hospital I was in, the doc diagnosed me schizo. Anyhow, the meds fix that, too--they are more important than dx.

hi.. i was diagnosed bipolar at first, then schizoaffective, then back to bipolar and PTSD.

one day i read an article about treating symptoms instead of the illness itself... and i tend to agree.  we all have different sympoms, some more or less severe for each individual.  so what works for one of us, isn't necessarily going to help the next guy.

it's all hit or miss, and can be frustrating!!!  that's for sure!

i wish you all the best!
