MAOI's
«

anyone know where there may be a list on the internet of MAIO drugs?
I wanted to take some cough syrup and it said not to take it if you are on any MAIO's. Also said to ask your DR or Pharmacists, but the pharmacy is closed and obviously the Dr is not in. I've never read anything about any of my drugs being MAOI but I want to be sure. Anyone?

I found a list near the bottom of the page at this address:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monoamine_oxidase_inhibitor
Remember it is at the bottom of the page near the references.

Phyllis,
One of the places I check for interactions with my drugs is DRUGDIGEST.COM It really helps and is pretty accurate. Also, if you are concerned, call your pharmacist. I do it all the time and ask if this drug will interact with that drug and so on....
I know that Seroquel is NOT an MAOI. If that's what you are wondering? Or if you were wondering another drug ...I checked out the link from Elwood.
Hope that DRUGDIGEST.COM helps you too!
Hugs,
*Chelbie*

Phyllis,
If you were on an MAOI they would tell you because they seem to react with everything. I had that same question several years ago and that is what the pharmacist told me. According to said pharmacist, even your diet would have to regulated. Apparently very few people are on those because they are quite problematic. Oh and try Delsym. It is totally the best cough medicine.

Generally, the anti-depressants prescribed for bi-polar are
SSRIs (Selective Serontonin Reuptake Inhibitors)
, rather than MAOIs.
