Hrm.  I'm not, like, fearmongering but you should really consider getting off the med and finding another option.  Young women shouldnt be on this med because of the health risks involved.  It should be one of the last meds you look to.  LAST.  If at all.  I would really push for something else.  PCOS [polycystic ovarian syndrome] is nothing to sneeze at.

Here is a discussion on how Depakote may be the cause or at least add to the probability of PDOS.

I am of the opinion that it causes it.  But I ain't no doctor! ha!

Even without all this stupid crap I'm throwing at you, you sound concerned.  If you are this concerned and just don't feel comfortable and are having these physical symptoms, get off the med and get something else.  You shouldn't have to suffer.

Psychiatrists, seems to me, ignore all kinds of physical symptoms--at the least, I would try to get a second opinion about it. All the stuff ever did for me was give me the shits--no therapeutic value at all. Dont rely on just one person's opinion, I think.

I really didn't like Depakote.   They started me on it while I was vacationing at the local hospital.  Tongue  When I got out I asked my Pdoc to change it if possible.  I don't remember what he changed it to but it was better than the depakote.

My Pdoc doesn't prescribe this drug to women because of the risks. Why don't you suggest Lithium instead as I believe you've already tried Abilify?

It's no joke that the drug companies pay the docs to give out, prescribe, their product. It truly is a reality.

having major womens problems ,hair loss, tremors, numbness, increased appetite and no one seems to give a  Shit.

i have read the info sheet and not anywhere on it does it mention any of the personal womans problems as a side effect........could be that which makes me so tired all the time....who knows as no doc seems to want to listen.....

what drug can i take instead of this which will do the same job but without these  Shit side effects?
i can cope with trmors had them so long now and the nausia.....but not the rest of it

Lithium so far works excellently for me, all I get in the way of side effects is a touch of acne on my back (which is covered up this time of year anyway) thirst, urinate slightly more often and a slight tremor, barely noticeable. And of course you need to be able to cope with blood tests.

Seroquel is also meant to be good if you haven't already tried it.

Seroquel will surely not help you with energy. It zaps it all away like you are a zombie. It will surely help you sleep! Lithium worked well for me, but I had to stop it because of the side effects that I had. My acne was all over, especially my face. My face was overloaded with grease, always, to the point that wearing makeup was impossible. Then there was the swelling, and worst of all, the seizures came back in full force, so I had to come off. It really was helping my bipolar, so I wish I could have dealt with the side effects. I also had tremors and they were bad.

There are so many people that live wonderful lives taking lithium, so don't throw away the idea just because I had a bad experience. We all handle these meds differently.

I've been taking depakote for my seizures for over 5 years and I'm doing fine. It helps keep my seizures from happening as long as I don't forget to take it. The only down side is I get tired easily but not too bad. Just after 5 hours of work so like today when I knew I was working 9 1/2 hrs. I was sure to drink coffee in the morning. There are side effects and I'm sure some people react differently to it but like I said I have had no problems.  Elvis

hi nicki i was just doing some comparison, your depakote and my epilim, belong to the same anti convulsants group however yours said it's divalproex sodium and epilim is sodium valproate which accordingly has less side effects than yours i don't know if they have it available in england but maybe ask the doc about other types of anti convulsants in the same group but aren't so intense for you.and stand your ground,it's your life honey don't let them fuck it up!!!!!tell them you'll go somewhere else and have all your medical records transfered it does make a difference.
