Anyone here on Topomax for weight loss? I've heard a lot of people are on it to help with their weight loss due to all the meds they are taking, however I did some research and couldn't really find anything helpful. And if you are on it for weight loss does your Pdoc give you the script for it? Or do you have to go to a GP for it? I don't see my Pdoc until Feb. but I'm really battling the weight issue here I fluctuate between 220 and 225. I can't seem to lose anymore. I know I need to cut out my snacking which is why I don't buy snacks when I go shopping. But, this is the heaviest I have EVER been in my life and I don't like it one bit! So, I was wondering if anyone was on it for weight loss, does it work?

I take 400mg per day of Topomax for migraines and my Neurologist swore I would lose a considerable amount of weight. That was almost 9 months ago and I haven't lost an ounce. I have the same problem you have with weight. Before I went on all these meds I weighed 230lbs which is not skinny but not fat for a 6ft tall man. Now I weigh 320 lbs and cant lose weight to save my life. Ive tried cutting foods out, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig,  The YMCA. and nothing seems to help. Very Frustrating.

I can really understand the weight thing I have gained a considerable amount and there just is not much I can do about it right now. I would rather be stable and fat.

I take Topamax for Migraines as well but the meds I take for BP seem to cancel out any weight loss benefits it has. IT's very strange but when I took lithium I lost weight but now I take Abilify and Seroquel and the pounds are piling on and the weird cravings and odd eating behaviors are running rampant.

I'm on both Abilify and Seroquel as well. I can relate to the cravings, weight gain, and odd eating behaviours.  Undecided

I'm seeing a new neurologist at the end of the month, my old Dr retired, and I'm gonna ask him to take me off the Topomax because it isn't doing anything for my headaches, or weightloss. I cant see taking a med when its not helping you.

yeah, it makes no sense to be taking a med that doesn't work. I hope they take you off of it.

What the HELL? It feels like seroquel is no different from POT when it comes to eating. I hate giving in. One night I had a feast on hershey kisses, m and ms, and some little debbie crap food. It was DEPLORABLE. It gave me the worst heart burn. If I can't trust my judgement on the seroquel, it really is not conducive to treating myself...I think. I should probably inform my doctor of this. I see her on Thursday.

and what is this I have heard in passing, "dopamax"? Is there any truth to the rumors? I heard some people think that it slows down their cognition.

In time that goes away. At least it did for me. When I was first on Seroquel, I used to sleep eat. I would wake up in the morning with food wrappers in my bed. Then it turned into carb craving, my Pdoc said is a side affect that she has found others have had. Now I don't get hungry or crave anything when I have taken my seroquel. However, I have been on seroquel ever since I was diagnosed, and that has been 3 or 4 years ago. So it may be a looooooooong road before it stops. The sad thing is, most of the meds out there for us do cause weight gain. Which really sucks. I have gained a lot of weight from taking all of these meds. It is quite depressing.

I have gained 10 pounds since August, which is not so bad. The fact that I seldom have money for food is helpful, otherwise it would be worse.

Woohoo, My Neurologist is taking me off Topomax. Hes putting me on a beta blocker, and I cant think of the name of it but he said its being used for the prevention of daily headaches. As for the headache that I have had for a week and a half, he gave me a shot of Tordol, but it hasn't helped much. Now I will get the steroids to see if they help.
