i very strongly believe my boyfriend of 2 years is bipolar. his grandma, dad, and sister are all bipolar and he has the classic signs. my question is..is it normal for my bf to constantly freak out on me, tell me he hates me, say he wants someone else and make me feel horrible then act as if nothing has happened the next day? i dont want to give up on him because he is getting help with the depression and i can only hope that he will start being honest with his psychologist about his mania soon. i know he is manic...theres no doubt in my mind but i dont want to give up on him if this is just the disease talking...

sounds like how i get when i am having a mood change.....i get very hateful and can be down right nasty to the people that i love although i really dont mean to i just cant help it.....so i would say yes it is normal to be like that when bipolar and not on the correct medication to help fix this problem.....i applaud you for standing by and taking it on the chin......it must be just as draining emotionally for you

yes, sounds like a mood swing. Be carfeul, if he is only being treated for depression, the mania could last longer as some anti depressants can exacerbate the mania.

I have put my boyfriend through utter hell with mood swings - really hateful, nasty things come out of my mouth and I physically shake and get this weird tingle behind my eyes.  I always find it so frightening that it can happen so quickly.
Glad he persuaded me to go to the docs and be honest but was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do - It was either that or lose him.
