Hi
« on: October 10, 2009, 08:06:32 PM »

I Have just reccently been diangosed with Bipolar 2 disorder. Although they believe i have had it since high school. Just everyone thought I had depression/anxiety, although meds never worked. I know its not nearly as extreme as bipolar 1, so i feel like i am being a bit dramatic over it.

I am 28 years old, and i am married with 3 kids, ages 5, 3 and 1. One of which has special needs.

I hope to learn more about bipolar and get advice from others who are living it.

Hi and welcome.  You're not being over dramatic.
You'll find we've all had unique experiences with this.
For some meds work,  They do for me now, but had to have ECT.

Like Ramji said, your not being over dramatic. I also have BP2 and have 4 children. It is difficult to deal with the BP alone then throw some kids in the mix? Definitely keeps you on your toes.

welcome and sit back and relax........we all have different variations of bp and all can be just as had for someone to deal with as they next so forget about feeling over dramatic....how each person feels is important and thats what matters ....
have to say i agree with phyllis on this one being bp can be challenginging at times but throw some kids into it and one with special needs makes life that much more challenging,im a single parent with two kids one of which has tourettes.
speak your mind and feel at ease as you do we are all here to listen not judge who or what you are and hopefully you will find some of it helpful to you

thanks! my LO is CHD, heart transplant, delayed, 100% G tube fed, CLD, and HOH (wears aids, and glasses) so she is a lot of work, shes in the hospital a fair amount which really doenst make things any easier on me.

so far the meds dont seem to be working, although a friend of mine who is bipolar things its odd that i was put on respiridone (sp?). but its only been 3 weeks.

what is ECT? I am familliar with online baords...however not mental health ones.

anyways so far this looks like a great site! it may take me a bit to become very active though.

happy to have you and let me chime in no you're not being overly dramatic.  i've always said i can't imagine having bp and having children to care for and it seems you have an especially lot on your plate.  give the meds time and you may need to try a few before finding some that work for you.  and personally,  i think bp 2 is worse than bp 1 - at least my bp1 because i can't imagine having that kind of intense depression so much of the time and never experiencing those incredible hypo-manias and manias - at least the good ones that i have had.  so you know it all depends. each experiences this a little differently and each of us has other things in our lives that can add to our stress levels which screw with the bpd.
anyway, hello and please keep posting.
