I have a hard time reading now. Its like what I just have read I don't remember and have to read stuff over and over. I used to be really good at reading (as long as my mind wasn't going 100mph)...I mean I could read anything and comprehend and remember it...but now I can't very easily. Its frustrating...I have to take this test for a job I'm applying for...a reading test.

It may not be that much of a problem...I think I am more annoyed at my reduction in reading ability than not being able to function.  I can read, its just takes longer, I have to read stuff over (never had to do that before).

There these 3 tests I have to take for this job.  Before they let you take the tests you have to take these pretests.  One is interpreting data from graphs/charts etc., one is learning and observation then the reading comprehension .   I got the highest possible score on the other two and would have on the reading too but got an 80%...as long as you get at least 70% you are guaranteed an interview.

Any one else have problems now with remembering what they've read because of meds?

exactly the reason why I don't read anymore. I can't comprehend it at first read, Ihave to read it over and over. Gets quite annoying so I quit readiing. Even the long posts here, I have to come back and read a few times before I can respond. And I have a friend who sends me lengthly emails and I find myself skimming them and banging my head on the desk because I have to re-read them. So, no. You are not the only one.  Undecided

Is this just about damn memory loss?  Or can we discuss other forms too ....like  F***ed up memory loss, etc?

Actually a lot of my memory has been coming back over the past few months.  A lot was from the ECT, but I think drugs like Seroquel
contributed to it too.  I have memories coming back almost daily.  It's strange.  Sanskrit chants will pop into my head (from back when I taught yoga)
but I usually have to look up some of the words to know what they mean.

The human brain, a enigma upon itself. Obscure, seemingly contradictory, ...a ambiguous phenomenon. In my experience,... one stage...a virtual genius ...another stage... a imbecile & anything in between. BPD, coined "The Brilliant Madness". On 1 side of the pole, I have experienced, photographic memory, speed reading, acute memory,  the rush of multitudes of thoughts...the opposite pole, a black hole depression...a lifeless void of none existence. The human brain...the center of Man's Universe...some believe, the vessel where the soul resides.  The human brain... steeped in mystery...a wondrous world to explore. JB (BOB)

I have to admit to memory problems but for me it isn't things I read, though it is hard and I'll be honest when I say I do the same as Phyllis on days and skim through things, depends on my mood.  The problem I get is literally short term memory, I can be going out the kitchen to make tea and suddenly find myself standing over the kettle wondering why I'm there.  I do however know this to be a warning sign aswel, the more severe it gets the more likely I'm going to go off on one.

I've had the exact same problems with reading which is heartbreaking to me bc I so loved reading my bible and now it's all mumbo jumbo to me. I've discussed this with some other Christians that assure me it's the devil trying to rob my joy of bible reading, but it's not just the bible, it's other things too, as in lengthy posts as phyllis and someone else said. Oh, I know the devil is laughing about it, but I think my illness/meds have a part. As I've told you guys before, when I was on the massive amounts of meds, I had huge memory loss, but now that I have come off of most of them, my memory is much better. I don't remember old things much, but remember almost everything that is happening currently excpet for when I'm suffering from sleep exhaustion.

When I went to the p/doc this week, the nurse I saw after him was condescending as shit...WTF...I told her I forgot to ask the doctor about how when I read I can't remember it.  She said that's not from the lithium...I was like "its not? even though that didn't happen until I started taking it?"  Then she told me that its just that I am not getting the full benefit of my medication yet...and that getting distracted is just part of my "illness"...I said "Ok, yeah I do have problem concentrating sometimes but this is with my memory...never mind I'll just ask him next time"  She said that he would just tell me the same thing and I said "Whatever"   I couldn't get her to understand and listen to what I was saying...she might as well just said "I'm the nurse, your the psychotic patient...tough shit."  WTF, I think she needs some medication!

It is incredibly frustrating when someone who has no idea what you are going thru condescends to you...
Many times I have wanted to ask the doc, " excuse me, but have you ever taken any of these meds that you prescribe?"  If they ever had to actually try the meds they give us, they would understand. Sometimes I think they all need benzodiazepines , or better yet, some thorazine!!!

If Doctors had to take the meds we take they would all be completely mad and we'd be the ones saying to them 'don't worry its only the side effects of your sanity' Smiley
