How do you feel about the holidays[christmas, chanukah, kwanzaa, new years, etc] Do you love the decorations and stuff, or do you loathe the whole good cheer thing? Just wondering....

christmas is one holiday that i love....itys filled with magic when you have kids, they really make it special.
i get to revert back to being a kid again with tales of santa and his elves, magic flying riendeer....its fantastic.
i also love the wintry evenings(especially if it snows)sitting indoors with the christmas tree lights on.putting up stockings on christmas eve with the kids all excited and finding it hard to sleep.
the other added bonus is that i get time off of work and christmas dinner cooked for me courtesy of my mum....bless her

I enjoy the holidays. especially when it snows. every year we do a family blog with Brian's mom's side of the family - it's nice to know what everyone has been doing for the year. Brian's parents usually come up from North Carolina for a few days and on the 25 we open presents in the a.m. make lunch/dinner and my parents usually come out to our house as well. So, we are lucky to be surrounded by family during this time and the kids really enjoy it.

For me I celebrate Yule, but at the same time I have nephews who love Xmas, so I do actually decorate the house the best I can to bring smiles to their faces.  Its well worth doing just for that, but I do decorate on other festivals, I think its the kid in me that loves it.

I embrace the holidays for my children and my wife well and the people who have financial interest in the credit card companies....those are the people who benefit from me around the holidays.

I personally cant really get into the spirit. The anxiety thing, not just the money out lay, the fact that I worry I got the person what they want or need, but I also have a hard timegiving a generic gift card cause even that proves to be a hassle...wrong store...wrong amount etc...

So Im no scrooge, but Im not going door to door singing carols either

I enjoy the Holidays. It's kind of nice to have a reason to be happy, most people are in a celebratory mood, and having a child in the family makes it all seem magical and new.
It also is a time when people get depressed as well, and I get upset when I think of people who are in despair and trouble at this time of year. It is supposed to be a season of hope and giving. It makes me wish that I could do more for people who are having a hard time. I have done a few good deeds this season[see, I'm not really that much of a bitch], I do get satisfaction helping those who are less fortunate, as it really makes me think about how lucky our family is.
Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all.

I enjoy the season for my kids. I used to be quite religious (pentecostle pastor for a father and strict upbringing) and was very involved with a church and giving etc etc. Now I buy for my kids and send cards to close family (parents and siblings) but the mention of Jesus being the reason for the season is rare in my household. I wish it were different for me, I want to give my kids the base of faith in their lives but I can't bring myself to stifle them and hold them down by religion and beliefs of man. Please noone take this the wrong way, I don't knock anyone for their beliefs and actually envy those who do have a close relationship with their brand of "God" I just have my own doubts in my soul and demons I must conquer in this crazy life. Wow sorry you just asked if we like the holiday or not...YEA I LIKE THE HOLIDAY..IT'S AWESOME!

Actually it helps me to see the holidays from a more secular, humanist point of view.
I find this gives me more of a feeling of connection than the separateness of sectarianism.
Less guilt ... less depression.
Unfortunately this approach is somewhat unpopular and discrimnated against by people who believe otherwise.
It seems it is present everywhere .....!  It is interesting there are such intense feelings about it.

I prefer to say Happy Holidays .... and be inclusive of believers an nonbelievers alike.

I thought I posted something last night, but it's not here.
Maybe I offended someone?  Though it is hard to see how.
We seem to cover a wide range of topics and points of view here ...
everything from sexuality to religion .... maybe non-religion is a problem.
I may need take some time off from here to contemplate this.

 Ramji,
I didn't see any other post from you other than the ones above...I checked the site last night and didn't see anything...perhaps you forgot to hit the post key? Huh?
You never have written anything offensive, so no worries! Don't think so much, it will make your head hurt Wink

Thanks, Paz.  I probably didn't hit post and jumped to conclusions .... I'm good at that.
It was a link to a Humanist site about celebrating the holidays in a sectarian way.
My illness has convinced me the mind is an effect of the brain and I no longer believe in the supernatural ... souls, god, etc..
Unfortunately it is a point of view that doesn't get much tolerance.
And even more difficult this time of year being bipolar too!

Thanks again.
