Smiley I thought I'd open a thread to talk about sleep troubles, too little or too much. I am ok right now, Allah be praised, and using seroquel to get to sleep, I have also tried trazadone (didnt like it) and Calms forte, which is a homeopathic sleep aid. So if anybody wants to talk about what gets them a good night's sleep, this is the place.

I've been having trouble sleeping the night through here lately. I was going to call my pdoc to see if she would call in an Rx of Lunesta for me, but I never did. I've been using Melatonin with my seroquel and ativan. It worked for one night.

I agree with Clayton, trazodone is awful....they put me on that for awhile & It sucked. Did you get your RX for lunesta yet? Maybe cut back on coffee after 4pm?

L-triptophan can be helpful, too. Helped me for a while,  until it was taken off the market
It is back.

Do any sleeping pills work? None have done anything for me, not ambien, or lunesta or trazodone....etc.
Is this because I am a maniac? Pdoc had never given me a straight answer, only "you are a difficult case"
  WTF?

hi, I have trouble sleeping all the time. before meds sometime I slept all the time like 14 or more hours a day and sometimes not for weeks. when I was diagnosed an put on alot of meds they made me want to sleep all day and sometimes I did, since then they reduced my meds to just lithium and busbar but now I feel the swings or the illness and need just a little bit more lithium or something to stop that and I hope that a steady sleep pattern will fallow.

it's now 5 am and still up dosant this illness suck  lol

All Bipolars have trouble sleeping. I am BPtype 1, ultradian cycling, and on the high manic side. When I am manic, I sleep for maybe 2-3 hours a night, and I feel that sleep is overrated. The mania can last for a week or 2, then I crash. It takes awhile to get back to normal? sleep patterns, but they do come. Ask about your lithium[Itake lithium also] That may help....are you on a tranquilizer of some sort? You could ask about that too. I take Valium for a tranquilizer, and while it doesn't put me to sleep, it does relax me. Maybe something like that would help you get some shut eye. Usually Bipolars take at least 3 different meds. I take 4.

I tried trazodone and thought it was terrible....bad taste in mouth, and a drug hangover the next day. I hear other people use it with success....that was just my experience.

The Seroquel has been the only sleep medicine that has EVER worked for me. I recently stopped taking it and I haven't slept since. I don't know what I'm going to do. I stopped taking it because of the weight gain ( i'm talking alot of gain ) and the fact that I slept at least 16 hours with the smallest dose. I've taken it for a year and lost a year of my life since I'm always in the bed. Please be careful with Rozerum, you wouldn't believe what it did to me.

What did Rozerem do to you? I've taken it before and I had no side affects. Like you said before, funny how meds work for different people.

OMG...I was like in a coma. I was asleep for about 10 hours, coming from a sever manic state, so my mom was here. During that time that I was sleeping I could see and hear them talking and wanted to move and pee and get a drink but was paralyzed, like you see in the movies when somebody is awake during their surgery. It had to be the worst thing I've taken.
