I have an appt tomorrow for my psychiatrist.  I just found out that my old one has left the office which means I will be seeing a new doc.  I think that is good news.  My last doc wouldn't put me on anti depressants because he said if you take them along with mood stabilizers the mood stabilizer wouldn't work.  Maybe this new doc will be more open to the option of placing me on an anti depressant considering that is a huge part of my illness.

antidepressants don't work with mood stabilizers? Pashaw! Sounds like your old doc was misinformed. Just my opinion. Smiley
I hope the new doc works out. Be patient though, you might have to go over everything all over again.

Thanks,
I think that's the most frustrating part having to redo.  Its a clinic so the docs are in and out a lot.  You go through the same questions over and over and never seem to make much headway.

Some Docs won't put a BP on antidepressants because of a risk of mania....they gave me an antidepressant at first and I went apeshit crazy. Are you BP1 or BP2? I am BP1, and all of the Docs I have had have agreed about the risk of mania with antidepressants.
Sorry to disagree with Phyllis, but sometimes antidepressants are not a good thing for a manic depressive.

oh, I agree that some people should not be on antidepressants, but I do believe that if one is on an antidepressant and a mood stabelizer is introduced, it can help considerably. that is what I didn't understand is why her doc didn't think mood stabelizers worked with antidepressants. Maybe they know something I don't. lol  Afro

Maybe her Doc has the opinion that it wouldn't help her particular case?

I am BP1.  But I think I was diagnosed 1 because of symptoms of psychosis not mania.  I go through hypomanic episodes but most of my episodes are mixed.  I stay in depression most of the time.
My doc didn't put me on an anti depressant this time she increased all of my meds.  She said she will see how I am at my next appt then think about anti depressants.
