I'm BP2, Dx'd around 6 years ago. You will find many people who are BP2 are on antidepressants. People who are BP1 generally are not on antidepressants because it can make them manic.

you should let your doc know that you are starting to have an upswing. Keep track of how you are feeling everyday if you can, this will help both you and the doc know your cycle and the doc may have a good idea on what they can put you on as a mood stabilizer. That will help keep you from having a lot of moodswings. You will still have mood swings, but they will be less frequent and not as strong. But everyone is different. And it may take awhile to get on the right med cocktail.

yes, it can be under control, but even so, you will still hit bumps in the road from time to time. No one is ever really "cured" for now. Hopefully the medical community will find a cure some day.

Hi lulu I am BP1 and I have been on trazadone twice in the past. I dont have the traditional manic states I have mixed states with psychosis. Two different doctors put me on that antidepressant to help me sleep. They stated that it was a mild antidepressant and should not put me into a manic state. I ended up going off of the med because it didnt work well for me but it didnt do anything bad.You should probably get your doc to explain it to you because everyone is different. These doctors probably feel different and us patients are defiantly different.

I think even people with BP2 or other types can have manic episodes induced by anti depressants...I don't think its common but def possible.
