I was finally able to see a psychologist yesterday and my anxiety had been high for a few days before plus a lot of problems with my husband the day of. So I just unloaded on the doc and after the crying, ranting and rabbit trails along with lists of questions to answer I was diagnosed Bp1 with rapid cycling. Unfortunately I have no medical coverage so he tried to find the most affordable drug that treats the manic part and it was valproate acid also called depakote along with the off brand form of paxil for depression. So if you believe in prayer please pray that this works because i don't think i could afford anything else. (Also read up on the side effects and they are scary).

You were Dx'd  BP1 and your Doc is giving you an antidepressant[paxil]?  WTF   Huh?

That may cause you to get even worse, AD's make BP1's go CRAZY MANIC.  I Shit You Not

Depakote does work, side effects can be bad for some people. If you start feeling more amped up after taking the paxil for a few days, please go back to the doc ASAP.

Glad you got in to see a doctor.
I have read that if you are given an antidepressant you must be given a mood stabilizer(especially with bp1). I am on zoloft and thanks to the lamictal I haven't gone apeshit...yet LOL  Smoking 1

BUT every person is different and if that works for you then great! But like Paz said, it can throw you into a spinout so watch your moods and don't hesitate to call your Dr if you need to.
Hopefully it will be quick to find the right combo for you Lost, it is really a trial and error.
