I'm bored, I thought I'd ask.

I won't just use it for an excuse to get out of anything, and I won't tell just anyone about it.  But I have mentioned it to get rid of an annoying guy who wanted to date me.  LOL, he left me alone. Grin

nAH, i deny it half the time too so I don't tell many people unless I know they suffer from a MI or I KNOW they won't judge me. But haven't used it (yet) to get out of anything. I probably would though if I had to.

There was no answer that applied to me.
I have missed out on things because of episodes (depressed episodes or high anxiety). But I have never used BP to intentionality get out of things. Not even Jury Duty.  Wink

phyllis i feel the same.    although, my family apparently thought i used it.   i wish i could have explained to them is wasn't for my benefit that i often was not there or could not participate in things.      actually i think other people thing that about me as well because i'm there and then i'm not then there then not - they never could understand that i wasn't able to predict a future bad day.  or that stress - even fun, good, stress can be overwhelming.

dreamline i think it's a great poll/question.  i wish more people would respond i'm curious.

phyllis it's funny you mentioned jury duty i've always been advised not to do it but i have always wanted to.
last year when i got a summons,   although i was in a very bad place i decided this time i was going to do it.  i mentioned it to my pdoc and he said they would never allow me to serve and i would just be humiliated.
have you ever served?

Very few people know that I am Bipolar. It's just easier that way.....at least for me it is. So, I answered No.

K -

I have never served. Both times I was summonsed, they dismissed the case.

To rid myself of a pest - Yes
To get something out of someone - Yes
So people expect less- Yes (I give fair warning that I'm a different breed).

The sick thing is, I still do not believe I'm BP.  But yeah.. I usued BP to my advantage. I used it to get disability.  And I use it as an excuse when I lose my temper. And I would use it just to freak some one out so they leave me the hell alone.

Hell, I tell everyone my DX, it's stupid to do because that may use it against me, like at work.  It's extra stupid because I don't believe I'm BP anyway.  I think I know me better than a shrink knows me...But I definitely used the BP to get disability...Because I am disabled, but it's related to severe ADD, Depression, and Anxiety (both comorbidities of ADD).
Hell, call it what you want, I'm just fucked up, and I knew it around 6 yrs of age...And many decades later, that 6 yr old has been proven right.

Voted no, frankly I can't think of a time I've ever used it as an excuse lol.  Usually its more a reason for me to be excused due to my behaviour!

Dreamline you are making me question myself again. Am I NPD or not - and I hate that. Funny anyhow. I see myself as a survivor.
