The Ministry of Defence has said that there is rise in mental health cases among armed forces. The mental health cases have increased from 3,013 in 2009 to 3,942 cases. The MoD said that last year almost 4,000 servicemen and women, which is 2% of the armed forces, were diagnosed with mental health problems.
However, more women, youngsters and people in lower ranks were at higher risk to suffer with health issues. Women were at double risk of mental health disorders in comparison to men. Even people of age group of 20 to 24 were also at higher risk.
Approximately 249 post-traumatic stress disorder cases were discovered in Afghanistan and Iraq. Troops in the war zone of Iraq and Afghanistan are at higher risk of stress problems.
The report unveiled that there were total of 2,5333 cases in Army, 965 in the RAF, 366 in the Royal Navy and 58 cases in the Royal Marines. On the other hand, 293 alcohols related cases and 835 depression cases were reported.
MoD Spokesman said that Armed Forces personnel are coming forward and high-quality diagnosis and treatment should be done by fully trained and qualified mental health personnel.
