today i was banned from a buddhist forum... i'm not quite sure why, the only thing i can think of is i got caught up in a heated argument over veganim/vegetarianism and it's relationship to buddhist practice... surprisingly there were a large number of buddhists participating in this thread who ate meat... they would degrade the vegans/vegetarians with each post they made... i have no problem with anyone eating meat, it's an individual decision but it flies in the face of buddhist precepts... all i did was point out that their behavior was hypocritical to true buddhist nature, that eating meat flew in the face of the buddhist goal to end suffering and that buddha himself taught about the virtues of not harming animals... fucking assholes...  ROFL

I know a little about strict Buddhism and this Hindu guy my friend knows is a vegan and says the same thing.  I'm surprised they would ban you for pointing that out, WTF?  I'm very much a carnivore but wouldn't degrade anyone who isn't...I mean WTF.  Yet I despise factory farming and understand the whole vegan thing about cruelty.  Ideally I would only eat meat from a wild animal (or free range domestic) who can live free and happy.  I see myself as a predator/hunter like a wolf.  But factory farming is sick, it bothers me....our society bothers me as a whole.  I hate being born into it, that's for sure.  But really, they chastised you for being a vegan and they are Buddhists?   ROFL

It's just ridiculous when any member of any religion behaves with intolerance towards another.....All of the doctrines in religion pretty much emphasize Love & Acceptance..... WTF

What group were they as I know that a lot of Buddhist Groups can and will eat meat without any problems.  A friend of mine belongs to a group known as RKK who's base in in Japan (you can check them out if you're interested).  So I don't understand the preconvieved notion that all of them must be vegan etc.

Actually going to apologise, that seemed almost bitchy, I'm in a funny place right now, I re-read what you posted and get it now.  Gods takes something like this for me notice my mood sometimes.  What you are saying is that certain groups view it as harm and that's why they adopt an alternative diet.  Where as my 'bitchy' comment was based on me reading it the wrong way, to me I read it 'doesn't matter all Buddhists should be vegan' which I know isn't what you were saying.

Seriously, sorry about that comment, I need a slap, no real excuse, I should check before I post.

i know that buddha allowed his monks and nuns to eat meat... but he wouldn't allow his host to slaughter an animal on his behalf either... maybe he was trying to avoid a guilt trip... who knows... in any event i still feel killing an animal creates suffering... how hypocritical is that?
