i just came across this and thought it was an interesting NDE(near death experience) account, since it comes from a neurosurgeon who was quite adamant before the experience that consciousness was created in the brain. he went into a coma where most of his brain shut down, and had quite an incredible experience, and afterwords was unable to explain it using his knowledge of neuroscience and came to the conclusion that consciousness is independent of the brain, and that the universe is much different than the reductive materialist model explains...

Oh, I know exactly what you're talking about! There's actually a site I visit that deals with the scientific aspect of life after death, well as much as a topic like that can be understood by science at the moment anyway. http://www.near-death.com/ Has a bunch of different theories on there, religious, scientific, etc. Great video Kensho, I really like the independent yet still being one theory.  Internets being super slow right now though, I'll have to watch all of it a bit later.
