Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and hoping that there are people that I can talk with about my moods and meds. I need to hear something besides "think positive and you'll be fine". It seems that no one understands at all about bipolar unless they have it or you force them to read something. It matches me exactly and still I get refusals that I'm actually "sick". I have too many people around me who do not believe in "psychotic" problems that are medical and not just depressed.

You mean things like ....
"oh come on, just snap out of it" or "You seemed fine yesterday" or "just take a walk, you'll feel better" or (my favorite) "just try to enjoy life!"
Yeah .... I know exactly what you mean. They don't have a clue what it feels like.

I know what you mean. My grandma and everyone on my dads side of the family like to tell me it's "all in my head." So I keep telling them yes, it is all in my head, it's a mental illness. lol Welcome to the site and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Wow...I already feel like I found a home filled with "real" friends. I am sooooo glad to know that I am not the only person surrounded by these types of people who REFUSE to admit that they have a mentally ill relative or friend like it affects them in some way to their "peeps". I don't know how being manic and suicidal goes away by walking around OUTSIDE in the fresh air God gave us to heal us. Sunshine makes your mood better so take advantage of it. WHAT!!!!! Even my doctor said "I'm running out of ideas to help you". Are you kidding me? I found more meds than were ever recommended to me by any doctor.
Thank you to everyone for the warm welcomes and help. I vent, but I'm also a good listener for anyone who wants to reach out too.
XOXO

Oh don't be silly now, just be positive right now and it will turn around immediately, bipolar is all in your head.

Glad that you feel at home here. We are a very small community, but I think we all are pretty nice.

Welcome Aboard. People often like to tell me to be more "mellow and not as uptight" when I am stressed or hypomanic/manic. Then they turn around and like to promote a "Pollyanna like attitude" where they get me to try and see the optimism and goodness in everyone and everything when I am depressed. I wish I could filter out some of the things others have said to me and I have said to them. I just have learned to not let what insensitive things that others say go to bed with me at night. If I am angry or hurt I cry it out for a few minutes to an hour and then forget it!
People are still very ignorant when it comes to mental illness. Unless you yourself have one or are a person who works with the mentally ill and has made it their profession. Sadly even family members don't always get it. If you have any questions just ask.

ACTUALLY! I have had "professionals" say stupid shit to me!! Some stupid bitch said she didn't think I needed an appointment when I was very manic because she thought I was *just* having problems at work. I got an appointment 3 weeks LATER when I was hallucinating even more, no sleep and had to drug myself with klonopin just to get through the appointment. I dunno how I did it but I fooled my shrink into thinking I wasn't as fucked up as I was...as in ok to let me go home ha.

They are not professionals if that is how they are acting and treating you. I must ask... why are they asking on the phone in the first place? Why? Are they a RN or a LCSW? I think not! They are a secretary... this is why I ask for a nurse or to speak directly to the charge nurse, or have them call me if I have a problem. I have even spoken to another doctor or directly to my doctor if I have to. Some secretaries are a gift from God (or what ever deity or influence or power you feel is above yourself) and some are terrible!

i'm sorry to break the news to you disorder71 but whoever is telling you that psychosis has a physical component to it isn't stretching the truth... sure, they need to be more understanding but you need to realize there's a little more to mental illness then it's all in your head... the brain chemistry bullshit it correct to the degree there MAY be a chemical imbalance but medications are a terrible approach in the long haul... they are excellent under times of crisis in the initial stages of treatment but this is about it...

Actually it was a NURSE who said that shit and the secretary who was trying to help me and sent my last call to the head nurse. Go figure that one! Dumbasses are dumbasses no matter their title.
