I am fucking sick of this anxiety bullshit and don't get why my p/doc wants me to take a goddamn manic inducing anti-depressant.

So, I have been researching and found something interesting.  A GABA derivative was synthesized in a Russian lab in the 60s.  It is able to pass the blood-brain barrier unlike regular GABA.  So basically it works for anxiety like a benzo but without the side effects.  Its a combination of GABA and Niacin.  So its very low in toxicity, which is great.  Its sold OTC in Russia and Europe as a drug...so I'm thinking it must work.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picamilon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenibut

The above two are for anxiety and cognitive functioning.  But there's others...some are more for depression or are anti-convulsants and possible may work as a mood stabilizer too.  We all know how we hate our meds and want to get off of the shit.  There may be hope.

Sorry, I can't remember.... Have you tried and antidepressant yet? And the other question that I can't remember if you have answered before, have you asked your pdoc WHY they want to try you on something that is capable of putting you into mania?

it's interesting that the wiki article on picamilon states that this form of gaba can cross the blood brain barrier because standard gaba can't... as a matter of fact they use standard gaba to test the permeability of the blood brain barrier itself by attaching a radioactive isotope to the gaba molecule... they call it the gaba test.. if you look at my orthomolecular thread you'll see i was placed on modified gaba on day one... i believe that shit played a huge role in stabilizing me... this is interesting in that i pay a lab for special shit when now i'll be able to save some coin, not that i think i'll need to use gaba forever... you are such a positive contributor to these boards DreamLine... i honestly don't know what they'd do without you!!! if it wasn't for you, I'd probably fucking leave...

Big Thumbs up Girl!!! i'm gonna bounce this off my MD and see what she has to say...

Sounds very interesting. I must admit that I'm not brave enough to stray from the plan my doctor has layed out. Probably because things are stable right now and I don't really experience side effects. Still the idea of using more natural remedies is interesting. I'm wondering how do you go about it? Do u actually stop your prescribed meds while you try the other things you find? Do you discuss it with your doctors first? The possibility for medication interactions keeps me from trialing different natural remedies so I was just wondering how you do it?

No never taken one...have taken other sertonin affecting things: Tramadol, Methadone, SAMe, LSD...all made me manic instantly...with or without lithium.  My p/doc even thought it would but was hoping it might not...I was too speechless to comment so I didn't ask then.

Re: Kensho
Thanks for asking her and all that.  Thanks for the compliment, I'm trying to keep my momentum toward positive.

Re: SBF
If this answers anything for you, I researched to check for interactions, and I am not changing my dose of lithium...the Picamilon is for the anxiety that has ruined my life.  I don't take anything for anxiety as of yet...I'm waiting for the pills to come in the mail.  If you wanted to switch from a benzo to the new stuff....you'd have to wean yourself down from it and then start the new one if you take it a lot.

Re: Dionomo
If you look at how GABA works in the brain and read about the conditions it helps, you will understand too...we're not scientists either.

Oh Kensho I looked at the Choline supplement...supposedly you don't need it with the Picamilon just for the Piracetam and Phenibut.  But I'll keep in in mind for future reference thanks...I read on that page BTW that in Belgium they give it to dogs to improve their learning ability.  I'm afraid to give that to my dog.

Update:  I finally got the shit.

Yesterday I didn't take anything and was walking and something tripped me out and I had a panic attack.  Thanks to my dog I was able to walk off to the side to chill out.  He's like a service dog to me, he did a stand stay in front of me while I sat on the ground...he's very tall and blocks off a lot of the stimulation.  His black coat with gold stripes is calming to me.  I gave him water and drank some too (from his backpack)...which broke ironically at the same time.  If it wasn't for my dog, I wouldn't walk there again.

Today I took 50mg a very low dose on an empty stomach.  After about 45 minutes I felt relaxed but not buzzed or anything, just calm.  I ended up going for a walk and felt ok to go to the exact same place where it occurred and do obedience work with him and stayed calm, talked myself through the memory of the last time.  I am going to try 100mg next time.
