Anyone not on meds?  I am trying to get pregnant and if I do I was thinking of going off the meds for the pregnancy.  Its been so long I dont know what it is like to be unmedicated.

I would decide about the meds first, then get pregnant.  For one thing the early beginning of the pregnancy is also where some defects occur, do some research and FIRST be sure you'll be ok for over 9 MONTHS, getting pregnant, pregnancy and then breastfeeding.   Just my $0.02  Don't wanna see you suffer.

Absolutely agree that it would be good to do some research before getting pregnant. There are crucial parts of development that take place at the very beginning of a pregnancy. If you wait to stop meds until after you are pregnant there will be a chance for the medications to affect the baby's development. I think its important to consider the risk and benefit from all sides. Risk of medication during pregnancy, benefit of meds during pregnancy, risk of no meds during pregnancy, benefit of no meds during pregnancy. It's a very difficult decision and I respect you even for considering it. I hope you find what's right for you :-)

We have been planning this for a year.  I stopped taking my lithium and haldol (per docs orders) months ago.  He left me on abilify and celexa.  My problem is celexa is a class C, which means there are no reports of problems but there have been no test to confirm its safe.  I keep seeing where anti depressants have caused problems with the baby's health.  He put me on that one because most of the rest are known to cause issues.  I don't think it would be a problem with him about me stopping my meds for a while I am more worried about the people around me.  They wont agree.

Also I have a twelve year old so I have been pregnant before the main difference will be that then I didn't know I was ill so I wasn't on anything and didn't have to make these kinds of decisions.

if you wanna be med free while pregnant, then you need to finishing getting off of your meds and have time for your body to adjust before getting pregnant and having to adjust to that too. You will be surprised to know that sometimes women's hormones take over and everything is fine during the pregnancy. I was on minimal meds when pregnant with my youngest. I was on Wellbutrin, Abilify and Lamictal. I was taken off of everything else. Extensive tests were done while I was pregnant, extra ultrasounds to make sure everything was ok, and even talked to a geneticist at the request of my ob/gyn Everything was fine during pregnancy, no deformities or problems, but I did get Postpatdum Depression really bad. You and your pdoc need to decide if going of meds it right for you. Not anyone else.
