My Neurologist finally took me off Topomax and I never realized what side effects it had on me until I stopped taking it. I feel 100% better since I stopped it. It made me feel stupid. I had short term memory loss, I was sluggish, kind of emotionless, and no energy.
Now I'm the opposite. My memory is back, I have energy and I'm no longer sluggish felling. I hope I never have to go back on that med again. Oh, and I didn't lose any weight while on it

I have been on topomax for seven years. I have no side effects except for a slight word-finding problem. I wrote a book on it, so it can't be that bad for me. It has helped me to keep my weight stable, since I am also on respirdal. I have no problems with the med and am very happy with it.

ray...don't worry, I get all the bad side effects too...Jane I am just trying Risperdal (switching over from Seroquel) and I have been without sleep for 3 nights and days. It isn't doing anything for me, but the Seroquel has helped me to gain 70lbs. and keeps me sedated with just 50mg of it...I'm taking 1mg of Risperdal, how much of it do you take? 1mg just seems strange to me,I guess because everything else I take is higher doses.

I take 3 mgs of respirdal, and can't sleep without it. I also take ativan for sleep. I am a hard case for sleep, but these two together seem to do it. I have also been on respirdal for seven years. Before topomax and respirdal, I was on tegretol for twelve years, and it worked really well. I had no side effects on it, and I didn't need anything else. Unfortunately, I developed an allergy to it, and had to go off it. I take topamax, respirdal, and paxil now, and the three together don't work as well for me as tegretol did alone.

Wow...funny how that there aren't many responses on Topamax.  But in my humble opinion, and this is only based on me...because of what I'm going through right now....I HATE Topamax.  But everyone is definitely different and what one person goes through on a medication another person may NOT go through, correct? Smiley  I heard so many great things about Topamax in general for seizures but when it comes to Bipolar....I hear some pretty harsh stuff, but then there are other people who it works wonddddddddddddddderfully for and that's great! Smiley But for me...I'm glad I'm being weaned off of it and this is the second time and I'm NEVER going on it again...But I'm so tired of this medication roller coaster ride and I know this is only the beginning.  But it's only because I HATE rollercoasters Wink

Hugs to all
