Brian is correct. Antipsychotic meds are often used in a mix to tx bp.
Bp can, with some ppl, lead to psychosis. Usually this is temp and under control again, once meds kick in or meds are adjusted.
If the psychosis remains, then identifying the "correct" diagnosis for the client is the next step.
Misdiagnosis is common when there is mania, depression... It is a process of fine tuning.
Lurker is right, as strange as it seems, the lack of sleep does often lead to some form of psychosis, then some crash and sleep for days. Others gain a balance and keep moving.
Common med structure. May work for some and not for others.
Does work great for some clients. As with most meds... different strokes, for different folks.

since we're on the subject, i was just wondering if anyone thought knew or heard  if there'd be much difference between Invega (time released form of risperadal) and risperadal and or mixing them risperdal with other antipsychotics.  the maximin dose of Invega didn't work for me and it doesn't stop the tingling sensation that causes such irritability like the seroquel did. but it does relieve the rapid thinking but does not really slow any other part of me down.  i take it with xanax and the xanax only seems to make me have a bad memory.   sooo, i've been given in and taking small doses of seroquel - 50-100mg hoping to take the edge off but the hunger and sleepiness seem almost as bad as at the high doses??? anybody.  i know phyliss you take seroquel do you find any difference in sleep and hunger cravings when you take different doses???  anybody eles?

K -
Yes, I have found that on the smaller dosages I am just as hungry as I am on the higher dosages of the Seroquel. I can't really comment on the sleep because I take sleep meds.

K- the way I deal with my Seroquel is the wrong way, so I'm not recommending it, just telling you what I've been doing. I take the seroquel (only 50mg) and sleep for 16 hours or better. It isn't affecting hunger anymore, but it used to really bad. I'm controlling the sleep thing by going for several nights without sleeping or taking the seroquel. Then I take it when I know it's going to be manic time after a few nights of no sleep. Then I sleep for a day and so on and so on. I've been told many times by my pdoc that I am confusing my body, but I've also tried to follow her advice on how to take the seroquel and it makes me sleep my life away. I hope one day to figure it out and I hope you will too.
