Has anyone taken xanax, did it work? side effects? I know everyone has different reactions to meds, but I was thinking about asking my doc if she can prescribe me this to help with my anxiety attacks and to maybe help me sleep.

Haven't taken Xanax, but I take Valium, which is supposed to be about the same thing. It does help with my anxiety as long as I take it BEFORE the anxiety gets too extreme. I haven't had any side effect. Everything is worth trying.

I take xanax about once or twice every two weeks, for anxiety.  It sure does help.  Sometimes, after it wears off, i get a "hangover" from it, but not all the time.  -- only .25 mg.

It's worth a try if you would like to give it a whirl.  It seems to help me when i'm over-thinking too.

all the best!

i've taken xanax for years and it has always worked for me with anxiety. unfortunately since going off of seroquel i increased the xanax until i have finally developed a tolerance to it so you really have to be careful in how often and how much you take. believe me it's no good when you've developed a tolerance cuz it doesn't work anymore AND, if you take too much it screws with your memory.
good luck

I personally love XANAX.  I take it 3 times a day (0.5 mg.) but I'm weaning down to 2 times a day because it makes me very tired.  But it's great for my anxiety.  I love it.  But remember, it's addictive.  I took Ativan last year and it's in the same drug "category" (benzos)...and I wasn't weaned off of my Ativan last year and went through SEVERE (and I mean SEVERE) withdrawal last year and it was horrible....I never want to go through that ever again or ever see or hear anyone going through that...it's not something I would wish on anyone.  But to answer your question, I would recommend trying it.  I don't really have any major side effects except the tiredness Smiley  Good luck!!! HUGS!!!

Hello everyone,

I was on Xanax for several years.  I ran into some problems 3 years back and the doctor wanted something that would work 6 hours instead of 4.  We switched to Klonopin.

I find Klonopin eases the anxiety faster and longer.  I have to take it right away when I feel anxiety coming on.  If I do take it in time and keep my mouth shut for about 20 minutes, I get into a lot less trouble.

Mrs K Elwood might agree with that.

I think I should probably ask the doc for Klonopin instead of Valium, Elwood. Your statement sounds like it would help me out alot.
