Today, I watched a movie called "Numb"...You guys should watch it. We can relate. It's a fairly new movie and I found it with the new releases. Of course we don't hear about it like we would the normal new releases.

Oh, I just love when ya'll tell me these movies to look for. I've got "Canvas" on my next list. You don't hear about these sorts of movies. MI is apparently something that some people are trying to get through to the general public through books and movies, but they seem to be hidden, as is the illness. I'm such a movie "buff". If you know of any more, send 'em on.
K got me in on the "hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy". I've been cracked up about that robot ever since.
Francie- that's exactly what this guy in the move "Numb" was diagnosed with, depersonalization disorder, but he got thrown back and forth from doc to shrink to f**king his CBT therapist who by the way is apparently already cracked up herself. Then there's of course the psychopharmacolgist that sleeps while this patient is in his office. It just is really something that I identified with...hahahaha, but not, 'ya know.

OH yeah, I forgot about this one called "The Hours" that Giralte recommended. It's really deep, but very identifying. I have also found myself watching it over and over like she said. It is almost like addicting ot something. Or even soothing, which is kind of sick, you'll know what I mean if you see the film.

I snatched up "Numb" & viewed it with a male friend. To say the least I could relate to the film. Certain scenes, I laughed my ass off. I believe, because of the content "Numb" will not be a box office smash. Asked my friend, "How did you like the film?" His answer was, "Ohhhh, it's OK." Knowing he was reluctant to give a truthful comment, due to his knowledge of my BP. eeeyup, guess that's how the cookie crumbles. The good old BP topic, by most, is not a favorite. Screw em if they can't take a joke.--- Joe Buck (Bob)

some parts would just knock you down wouldn't they Joe?....Yeah, some other people wouldn't like it or at least not realate to it so your right, no box office smash. I just nearly died when he got a CBT...that's just about the way it goes...and the doc that asked him to put his arms out in front of him and watch his finger, and touch his nose, that has so happened to me, so I just couldn't quit laughing. Oh, and lord, the therapist snoring...hahahaha

No, I haven't seen Canvas or Bennie+June, but I have to go out tomorrow and I'll try to pick them up. I so much appreciate your feedback on this subject. I love to read and watch movies about BP, or just MI in general. It's my world and what I live in and it's seems to be accepted by myself the more I understand it. Movies help me to escape my world and be involved in someone else's for an hour and a half, although I do know it's just that, a movie. I try to read as much as I can. Joe and Phyllis send us some good links and articles to read and so does Clayton, I just have such a hard time concentrating on them. I have to read things several times in order to comprehend what I'm reading and I get frustrated, so the movie thing seems to work out good for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do about my reading problem? I know some of you have to have experienced it. I've always found at least someone on here that experiences the same problems I do. Keep the movies coming to me though, because it's hard to find them. There is not "movies for the MI" section in the store...LOL

Hi there again,I just ordered a movie from Amazon.com called ''Sooner or Later''.Its about a girl who's 13 and a little older who falls in love with an eighteen year old.I saw it on abc television when I was eight . It was so great . He is an eyefull! Rex Smith is the actor and that is his name in real life.He is in a band. It's not corny like eight is enough. It is a love story.I guess it's back East somewhere. Its on the (abc) hard to find list.It is a temporary fix for depression for me. Also there is another movie with some subtitles and some narration by the indian grandfather. Its a beautiful movie I saw in a theatre once.I watch it when I am really depressed.I'ts also for sale on Amazon.com.I saw this when I was fifteen.I'ts about indiand but it is not a documentary.I always thought I had problems concentrating too until I got my new computer.I can be on it for two hours or so.I think my problem with reading stems back to me not wanting to give in to escapism.Reading is a type of escapism for some people. When I read fictional books I escape out of reality for a little while ,so to speak.I think I will try to read when know I won't be interrupted.I guess I like to feel like everything is under my control all of the time.I need :help:in my reading department.Take care ,sojo

I picked up the movie "Canvas" yesterday and will watch it sometime today. I didn't sleep last night, so I'll be worn out with a headache all day I'm sure, so Frog will have to do our Memorial Day cooking. I'll watch the movie and eat...LOL... About the book thing, I watch movies because I like to "escape", so I don't think it's really b/c of that reason that I am having a hard time reading. It's just something about the length of the passages that overwhelms me. It's like I just feel like it will take too long, and I have to go back and read it over. It's so odd b/c I am a fast reader. To comprehend what I'm reading, I am having to read so slow, and like a said, I have to read it a couple of times, or at least parts of it.

Ok...I watched the movie "Canvas". She was a little more intense than I have ever been in some ways, but in others I can remember those reactions all too well. Especially where people were making her take her meds, and when she exploded so many times in anger. The feeling that she was trying to give her son was of love, but it came across in her "crazy" way, and I have definitely experienced that. My children have never been embarrassed of me like this boy was, but they got hate instead of love from me because that's just how it came out when they were disobeying rules and I felt hopeless on controlling them. Things still rock on that way around here sometimes. My oldest daughter and I barely talk because she is so much like me that we clash almost always, unless she wants something, I guess that's the teen in her. Any way, it was a good movie and thank you for recommending it. It made me realize that things aren't as bad as they used to be and that I should be thankful that I've come so far.

high, that was so funny about having a movie section for the MI! maybe you should recommend it and see what kind of looks you get. I couldn't quite get a feeling whether you liked canvas or not. it was really more from the son and father's point of view but i cried throughout the whole movie because they just loved her so much and she was such a talented person and loved them so much but this ugly disease which is so hard to deal with made life at times so totally unbearable for everyone. like i said i cried at how things use to be. they were purposely vague on the time period and meds and diagnosis but it was probably schizophrenia and i don't think she had any good meds and like it said at the end she never went sailing with them. it's not an uplifting movie but it was written by the son. it's a real powerful movie this is how it was and is sometimes - and society at large has little understanding or help for you. i hope it didn't depress you. perhaps i should have warned you? now Bennie and June was a widely watched movie because of the actors. it's very very touching in a sweet unlikely way. the only thing that tore me up inside was the bus incident. i've been like that before. not pretty!

oh yeah K...I did like it, but of course, it wasn't a pleasant movie "get what I mean"? It was matter of fact and truly what happens to us. I was unaware that her son wrote it. Bless him. I hate how movies leave you hanging like that. Makes you wonder how it ends up. I would recommend it to people that don't understand what MI is about. But, would they watch it and think she was crazy or would they be like we are and understand what they are watching from the outside looking in?
