This place is very gradually becoming a slum--started with not fixing the closer on the front gate, not fixing the leak in my roof, not replacing Jay's sink down the hall--bit by bit you can see it coming. And Ron says the neighborhood is very bad--Ron is a black guy and can tune in to stuff I wouldnt notice. I think it's time to start investigating senior housing--looking for someplace safe where I can keep a computer and shit and not have them swiped within three days of moving in---

clayton, if you are worried about your living situation, maybe it is a good time to consider a move?  I hope that it will work out for you.

you know, the other day i was on flicker dot com and was going through some great black and whites someone in san francisco has posted there... the photographer also had a 'set' of some of the homeless of san francisco (some of which had a little blurb about the person included).  while it was very disturbing to me, and i may have mentioned this experience here already, some of these homeless talked about renting rooms before, and how everything they had in their rooms were stolen when they left to go out for a while.  talk about my heart breaking for them.  i can't imagine how they felt to have their few, worldly possessions taken.  hence, many of them just choose to live in the streets.  it's so sad how people take and take from those who have little-to-nothing.  worse than criminal.

i just hope you can find a better situation.  i'm lucky to have found a home with my friend.  otherwise, i might be on the street somewhere, too.

sending all best wishes.

Yeah, that happens in SRO's all the time--happened to me! There appear to be predators in these funky old hotels who just break into rooms at random and steal whatever they find of value--usually not much. The term "low-life" comes to mind.

i too lived in a place that started off not too bad but just slowly deteriorated around me until i was scared to live there anymore.  chased from my home and there just wasn't any good reason for it to happen. i feel sorry that you have to watch this and will have to go looking. but some of the senior/disbility housing isn't too bad at all. at least not in my area. i had a friend move into one and it wasn't the best area but they made the building safe and secure.
good luck clayton

Boy, Clayton, this really sucks...you pay your money and wonder what the hell the landlords are doing with it. You know what you need to do and I just hope the best for you. My place has become run down a bit since I've been in my slump for the past year and a half, but we own it, so I guess we'll either live with it, or fix it. Fixing it sure isn't affordable these days though. I guess that's the good thing about renting.
