I trying to get back to painting and drawing. I do a little mote than the cartoons you may have seen in the humor section. I feel my work is too tight and I need to loosen up a bit. I've attached some sketches and, just for fun, a picture of my buddy jack.

awesome Ramji, looks just like your expressions are coming out in those pictures b/c that's just exactly what I pictured your artwork would look like...keep hanging...you're going to be OK, you're too strong to be knocked over for long.

Thank you, High. Your response really helps me to feel more confident .... sometimes I need to be validated. I see your new avatar and I've attached an "eye" I did last Halloween in Photoshop. It's from a photo, but modified to add a "creepy" factor. In my fist version it floats in the desert sky ..... this one freaks most people out.

Hi Ramji, how are you?I tried to take an art class in college.I had to drop the class, it seemed to hard.I have yet to stumble upon a really good beginning art book.Maybe someday I will try again. My mom has talent but she is not interesed in art.She scribbled a picture of an old bar maid on a napkin. She made the woman's lips bigger and they were very pointed and defined on the upper lip.I guess my best best drawings happened when I was manic.I just don't have a lot of patience for art right now but I am so glad that you have something you enjoy doing.Cute cat! I have a Mainecoon. She just had surgury. She is twelve now. I guess there is a link between the Lukemia shot and cancerous tumors. She is ok but ,I am not putting her through surgury ever again. It was so awful when we picked her up.She had a lot of liquid in her throat and it seemed to want to surface .These were the affects of the anesthesia. I had to take that lampshade thing off her head because she was hurting herself. We didn't trust this one doctor, she said in :)the event that something will snap or break another additional surgury may have to be done. That did not sound right. We got a different doctor and paid less.I think he did a better job and (he didn't say anthying about an additional surgury in a worst scenerio)I didn't trust that other one ...bye now, sojo

Phyllis - I would love to see your work with photoshop! Do you use CS3? Post some .... I have a few I might share too .... I'm still a rookie.
Sojo - The Burne Hogarth books, Dynamic Figure Drawing, Drawing Dynamic Hands and others are a good start. It's broken down in different shapes as a foundation, then adding on details. The figures are kind of exaggerated, but a good technique. You can find on Amazon or just about any art store.

Thanks ... I'm trying to find the full image. I had the eye floating in the desert sky .... I used to keep the image as a desktop background (it was Halloween) and it gave my wife the creeps.

My daughter can draw really well, but I am positive she didn't get it from me. You would be so shocked if you saw some of my drawings. I tried yesterday to draw a large steering wheel for the background of a scrapbook page. I was making one of my daughter, her driver's license, new car, and a pic of her driving. I haven't done it yet b/c I'm hoping maybe she can draw it for me...I guess it's the eyelashes that looks so freaky on your pic Ramji. I have a friend who is albino, you know, with pink eyes and white eyelashes, and her eyes float around like you don't know what she's looking at. She can see, but is legally blind. It doesn't freak me out b/c she has been my friend for 20 years and I'm just used to it, but I remember meeting her as a teenager and being really interested. I couldn't get your attachment pulled up. Computer said "invalid code" or something like that, but would love to see it....not a cat person, but it is cute.

High,
Here's what I did with the eye ..... first I chose one from a stock photo site, I split the image in half .... discarded half, flipped the other horizontally and put the 2 together. If you look closely you can see this (don't look too closely, it might bite .... I think there are teeth in the pupil).
My mother used to tell a story about me ..... when I was around age 5 I drew a monster on a blackboard in my room. My drawing scared me so much I ran through the house crying looking for her.

High, did you see the reply to Sojo about the Burne Hogarth books? They are excellent. I bet you can find them at the library too. A lot of it a matter of practice. You're probably your worst critic and are doing quite well. I find there are times drawing and writing poetry are helpful in dealing with this illness.

I am really creative and I guess my escape is the scrabooking. Sometimes it gets a little sad though when I pull up old pictures that remind me of "the good 'ol days". Pdoc says that's good for me to think back some as long as I don't dwell on it....I used to read often, just can't seem to do it lately. I loved all the "Left Behind" books and read all of the series, but now that sort of thing doesn't interst me. I like to read things that are non-fiction at this point, if I can concentrate, that is. I did see what you sent to sojo and I'll check it out....I'll let you know how it goes.

High, I know what you mean about reading. I was an avid reader, mostly philosophy, and now I can't sit still lnog enough .... or I'm too depressed. The books I mentioned are good for beginners and experienced artists .... they're sort of "exagerated" studies of figures, there's a book just on hands .... I have such a hard time with hands.
