Hi all,

As some of you know, I've been depressed for 3-4 weeks now, my pdoc today suggested either Lamotrigine (Lamictal) or Bupropine (Wellbutrin, I think?). I said I'd research them and see him on Tuesday. What do you all recommend? I'm told there are some pretty serious side effects with Lamictal (bone marrow deficiency, Steven Johnson Syndrome etc) but that they are very rare and a lot of people get on well with it...any suggestions?

Thanks

Cathy,
I'm on both and in my opinion they work very well together. They start you out on small doses of Lamictal and then work you up to your required dose as a precaution. If during the time they are weaning you on it and you have any side affects they will put you on something else.
The side affects are rare though.

I have two kids on Lamictal and we have not had any side effect problems.  We did increase their dosages very slowly but other than that, it has been very good for both of them.  I took it for a while myself and it basically did nothing for me.  I think it either works for you or not.  I do think that it is worth a shot.  There is very little danger and the benefits could really make a huge difference in your life.

Just to put a lol word in for 'ya....My pdoc says that if she could take me away from all of my worries and carry me off to Hawaii on vacation, she thinks I would be fine on only Lamictal, but due to life in general, we add all the other meds.

I was put on Lamactil after my hospitilization 3 weeks ago. I haven't really noticed a difference yet, but the good thing is I haven't had any side effects from it, so I am giving it a chance.

could your pdoc not give you samples? That's what mine did until we saw if it was working and until I reached my ultimate doseage. After that, Medicaid covered it. Still does.
